I feel like I have been in a perpetual haze since the day Hugga was born.
You lose a certain presence of mind when you become a mom. You really only enjoy things through the proxy of your children, your to-do list and monthly accounting are always somewhere in the back of your head, you worry about every new experience for your kids, and even when they’re asleep, you’ve got one ear on the door in case of nightmares. Every milestone, every step your baby takes toward independence means you must let go, and the only indicator you get that you’ve done your job right is that they need you less and less.
It is so difficult to live in the present when you’re a mom, to really appreciate each moment without worrying about its fleeting nature. It’s tempting to say it’s impossible, but we all try. We hang onto the moments as best we can because they’re what we put in all the work for.
Happy Mama’s Day to all of you doing the most important job in the world.
